The essentials

This stunning example of a 1956 Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupe, finished in maroon with beige leather interior, has been meticulously restored to its original specification over a number of years.

With a mileage of only 48,000 on the clock, this vehicle has had one previous owner from when the car was first registered, and then purchased by the current owner a few years ago. This beautiful XK140 comes complete with an extensive history file and original buff logbook.

1st September 1972, the car had been purchased and re-painted blue instead of the original colour maroon, and so the owner set about taking the car back to a bare metal body shell over a nine-month period.

In October 1973, the body was then totally removed from the chassis and taken to a local garage where a complete mechanical strip down commenced. The chassis was shot-blasted and repainted in December of the same year. The gearbox was completely rebuilt alongside other mechanical works, and by the mid 1980s the car was ready for its first coat of paint.

The car then stood for another 5 years, until June 1985, when it was transported to the paint shop. After undergoing six coats of paint in July 1985, the car was left standing for another 4 years, until it was time to start again. After a light coat of colour and what we term a flat down, the car was ready for the real painting to commence.

With the car now completely painted and given the years that had passed, no detail was to be overlooked; and so the owner decided to take the engine out once again and vigorously check it over, making any adjustments where necessary. In September 1989, the engine was reinstalled.

In October 1989, the car arrived home and so began the task of building her back up again.

On December 2nd 1989, the car went to the trimmers, with no expense spared on the beautiful hide leather beige trim which it retains today. The trimming work took six-weeks plus to complete. Rear seats, new trim and aluminium side panels were fitted, (all documented in the history file with photographs.) New headlining and double duck hood - "Sheer Perfection" as one of the photographs is titled. The upholstery was finished in January 1990.

On May 18th 1991, at 8.20pm, the car restoration was finally completed after 18 years, 9 months, 18 days, 20 hours and 20 minutes... and went on to win ‘Best Sports Car’ at a local competition to the sheer delight of the first owner.

The coupe has been meticulously maintained for all of its life, no expense spared, and our sister company M&C Wilkinson Ltd have assisted with its servicing and preservation needs whilst in the care of its current owner.

This is a truly rare opportunity to own such a wonderful car, steeped in photographic history and boasting originality.
